If you need to power a Japanese 100 volt appliance in the United States or Canada, you need a step down "reducer" transformer. Step down reducer transformers take the 120 volt electricity supplied by North American wall outlets, and convert the voltage down to 100 volts for use by the Japanese appliance. These transformers perform that conversion, allowing you to power your Japanese 100 volt appliance from a 120 volt North American wall outlet.

This transformer supports up to 300 watts, so be sure that your appliance's wattage does not require more than 300 watts. This transformer will accept 2-blade non-grounded Class II or 3-pin grounded Class I Japanese appliance plugs.
 

There are two other applications for which these step down reducer transformers are also used:

  • A few countries' electrical systems supply electricity at 127 volts AC, which can be just barely outside the typical +/-10% tolerance of most U.S. and Canadian 110-120 volt appliances, and in some cases can potentially damage or destroy the appliance due to overvoltage. A reducer transformer, when the local voltage is 127 volts, will reduce the voltage to about 115 volts, within the appliance's tolerance.
     
  • A 110-120 volt fractional horsepower motor or a compressor in an air conditioner or refrigerator built for 60Hz alternating current frequency will overheat if supplied 110-120V at 50Hz frequency. A reducer transformer, in the rare case that the local power is 110-120VAC 50Hz, will compensate for the difference in frequency by stepping the voltage down to approximately 100 volts. This will avoid overheating of the compressor or FHP motor.

PLEASE NOTE: All Todd Systems products are "custom built" in that, while base models are stocked in large quantities, configuration options (such as power cord length/type, etc.) are installed on a per-order basis to suit the particular configuration desired. This is usually accomplished quickly, with the product shipping within 24 hours, but that varies from day to day based on volume. Therefore, we ask that you ALWAYS allow for at least 2 or 3 days lead time to ship.
